Hair Care and Chlorine

Summer sun, pools: Chlorine is hard on the hair. Sun dries the hair, chlorine coats the hair. So chlorine in the sun takes a toll. The thing I dislike the most is trying to give back to school hair cuts after the fun in the sun. The chlorine turns hair into fiberglass like strands making it impossible to cut.

Taking care of hair in the summer takes specialized products. Chlorine does not come out of the hair without a shampoo that is designed to remove chlorine. This shampoo should be used every time after swimming. A deep moisturizing conditioner should be used once a week to repair the sun's damage. After shampooing, before drying the hair, a leave in veil or leave in conditioner will help prevent the chlorine from penetrating the hair and protect it from the sun. Much like a sunscreen for the hair. You can also go to the salon for a Chlorine and deep treatment once a month to help stay on top of the damage.

What not to use in the summer is sun-in or lemon juice. These products will damage the hair. Sun-in is actually bleach without any control. These products will turn the hair orange or gold tones. These tones are harder to correct, but not impossible.

Take care of your hair this summer so when you need to get ready for school, your hair will be ready for a great style.
